About Dr. Lan Su

Dr. Su is a board certified Oral and Maxillofacial Pathologist, a board certified orofacial pain specialist and a fellow in American Academy of Oral Medicine. These are rare dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association. There are limited numbers of such specialists nationwide and not all of them are available to see clinical patients. Dr. Su received her PhD after five years of extensive training in the Dept. of Oral Medicine and Pathology at Guy’s Hospital, University of London, England, after her dental degree was received. She completed a three-year residency in Oral, Head and Neck Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine, Atlanta, Georgia, and a one-year fellowship in Orofacial Pain and TMJ Disorders at UCLA, School of Medicine and Dentistry.

She is a clinical professor in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UCI Medical Center and on the faculty in Orofacial Pain, Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology at UCLA School of Dentistry. Dr. Su served on the editorial board of the Journal of Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine and Pathology, and is the past president of the Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology. She is well published in international and national peer-reviewed journals.

While these special services are traditionally available only in dental schools, Dr. Su has had the training and expertise to integrate all three separate specialties (Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, and Orofacial Pain) into one private practice. Her mission is to make these services more easily available to our local communities and to deliver the highest standard of care with her uniquely specialized practice and help our patients assume a higher quality of life.

Dr. Su is a member of the following organizations:

  • American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (AAOMP)
  • American Academy of Oral Medicine (AAOM)
  • American Academy of Orofacial Pain (AAOP)
  • International Association of Oral Pathology (IAOP)
  • American Dental Association (ADA)
  • California Dental Association (CDA)
  • Southern California Academy of Oral Pathology (SCAOP)

Dr. Su actively participates the annual academy and association meetings mentioned above to advance the knowledge on scientific foundations to help further diagnose and treat the patients living with pain or with other dysfunctions in the mouth and jaw areas. She constantly interchanges practical knowledge, and scientific advances with her colleagues around the world in the field of oral pathology, oral medicine and orofacial pain. She also contributes her unique knowledge of clinical applications and academics by providing educational lectures or seminars for dentists, physicians, and post-graduate students.
